Avascular access is a surgically created vein used to take out and return blood during hemodialysis. An arteriovenous (AV) fistula is a link, made by our surgeon, of an artery to a vein. It provides good blood flow for dialysis. It generally lasts longer than other types of access.
For dialysis we need to take puncture a blood vessel at two places every time a dialysis is done, one is to take blood towards the dialysis machine and second to send the blood from the machine to the body. The normal veins get unusable after one puncture so we need to create veins that can be used multiple times without getting thrombosed, so its best to create an artificial arteriovenous fistula to help dialysis to be done.
